The MAITRI meets with the diocesan disabled community in Sopot

The MAITRI meets with the diocesan disabled community in Sopot. Stanisław Łada, The Priest in the Church Ministry to The Disabled and Sick in Gdańsk diocese, invited the representative of the MAITRI Movement to a formal liturgy organised for the members of “The Centre of the Volunteers of Suffering” Association on 14th May 2017. During the Mass celebrated in The Parish of Our Lady Star of the Sea in Sopot, the organisation welcomed 12 new members through the vows affirmation. We were blessed to have two vibrant singers (Joanna Lange and Jagoda Wesołowska) to provide beautiful music to accompany the liturgy.

At the end of the mass, Tadeusz Makulski from the Maitri Movement Gdańsk community, explained the essence of the “Have a Heart Adoption” programme and presented the history of the cooperation with the Syrian “Faith & Light” community in Aleppo. The mass participants were given all the information on two outreach programmes launched by the MAITRI Movement in Syria: the support for 58 disabled adults and 32 disabled children. The members of “The Centre of the Volunteers of Suffering” showed a great interest in the programme and decided to sponsor one disabled person.

We can read on “The Centre of the Volunteers of Suffering” website:

“The Centre of the Volunteers of Suffering” is a diocesan association of Catholics, aligned on a national and international level with private establishments similarly named “The Confederation of the Volunteers of Suffering Centres”. The members of the organisation are mainly volunteers, families of the disabled and the clergy belonging to “The Legion of Mary”, who believe that by being of service to the disabled they are answering the God’s call for the prayer and penance. The support for the people with the disabilities is provided continuously, for the past 20 years, by the Church Ministry to The Disabled and Sick in Gdańsk diocese.
